Picture Mounts.
At Saltmarshe we offer a wide range of picture mounting solutions to compliment your piece. No matter your needs we will have a mount to suit you, from museum grade mountboards that will protect your fine art, to black core that will make your picture pop.
Grades of Mountboard
We grade our mountboards in line with the standards set by the Fine Art Trade Guild, distinguishing between four different levels of quality.
Level 1 – Museum Grade. This level of mountboard is made with 100% cotton fibre rag and is naturally acid free. The colours are made with lightfast pigments and will not bleed. This type of mount does not contain any optical brightening agents (OBAs) making them suitable for the finest art.
Level 2 – Conservation Grade. This level of mountboard is made with high grade alpha cellulose (wood pulp) and/or cotton rag. The face papers are acid free, made with lightfast pigments and have a calcium carbonate buffering to protect the piece. They contain no OBAs making them suitable for high quality art.
Level 3 – White Core. This level of mountboard is made with high alpha cellulose. The face papers are lignin free and may contain OBAs. At this level the core starts white and does not yellow over time. The colour may bleed making them suitable for replaceable art.
Level 4 – Cream Core & Black Core. This type of mountboard is made with wood pulp where lignin may be present, giving it a cream colour that may darken over time. The face papers are lignin free, may contain OBAs and non lightfast pigments making them suitable for low cost framing.
Mountboard Styles

Off White Mount
A classic cut mount style where the image is surrounded in an off white mount.
Black Core Mount
An off white mount with a black core to outline your image and make it pop.
Solid Core Mount
A mounting option that compliments a colour in your image.
Mount With ‘V’ Groove
A ‘V’ groove is commonly used as a decorative border for an image.
Double Mount
Two layers of mountboard. The larger top layer contrasts against the bottom layer creating a premium multi toned border.
Triple Mount
Three layers of mountboard. The larger top layer contrasts against the two lower layers creating a deep multi toned border.
Deep Bevel Mount
A deep mountboard that creates a luxurious art gallery apperance with its extra depth.
Mount With Slip
A small decorative slip placed between the mountboard and image to create an ornate look.
